BladderScan® History
Verathon® was founded in Seattle, Washington (USA) in 1984 and within the last 24 years the company has established itself as the world’s leading developer / manufacturer of hand-held portable ultrasound bladder volume measurement (BVI) instruments collectively known as the BladderScan®. Verathon® is the only company to invent V-mode® ultrasound technology. As with all ‘state of the art’ market leading brands, there are ‘poor imitations’ however they do not offer the extra services, opportunities and standard of care that we pride ourselves on.

- 1988 BladderScan® technology patent application. Development started, first BladderScan® released
- 1989 Printer enhancement
- 1990 BladderScan® patent issued
- 1990 Introduction of BVI 2000 BladderScan®- features included structural arm for leverage and integral battery
- 1992 BladderScan® two-step technology
- 1993 One-step male / female technology
- 1994 Introduction of BVI 2500 BladderScan®+ with added features which included increased cross plane scanning
- 1997 introduction of first BladderManager™ prototypes
- 1998 Introduction of BVI 5000 BladderScan®- features included portable size and weight
- 1998 Introduction of BVI 3000 BladderScan® - features include integral printer and financial tracking software
- 2001 Introduction enhanced software for BVI 3000 BladderScan®
- 2002 Introduction of BVI 6000 BladderScan® series platform
- 2002 Introduction of BVI 6100 BladderScan® - features include portable, hand-held and scans can be viewed, downloaded and printed via ScanPoint®
- 2003 Introduction of BVI 6200 BladderScan®Paediatric unit - features include determining a child’s bladder volume
- 2003 Introduction of BVI 6300 BladderScan® - features include programmeable for individual user via ScanPoint®
- 2004 Introduction of BVI 6400 Multiple Voice Annotated BladderScan® unit - features includes performing and holding 10+ scans
- 2005 Introduction of BVM 6500 UEBW (Ultrasound-Estimated Bladder Weight) and Bladder Volume Instrument BladderScan® - features include measuring UEBW in one single measurement taking a few minutes
- 2008 Introduction of BVI 9400 BladderScan® - features include NeuralHarmonics™ Technology, portable, hand-held and scans can be viewed, downloaded and printed via ScanPoint®
- 2008 enhanced the BVI 9400 BladderScan® with a pediatric setting.
- 2008 Introduction of FloPoint® Elite BladderScan® - features include assessment of flow mechanics, diagnose voiding abnormalities, records and charts urinary flow patterns, peak flow, voided volume, portable, hand-held and scans can be viewed, downloaded and printed via ScanPoint®
